Learn to Skydive

Learning to skydive is easy once you know what your first jump will be like before you even arrive at the dropzone. There are 3 ways to make your first jump: Tandem, Accelerated Free Fall (AFF), and Static Line.

Tandem

Let the instructor do all the work, while you take the ride of your life. This is the fastest and easiest way to be introduced to the sport of parachuting. Just make sure that you wear comfortable clothes and sneakers. Your first freefall skydive will be with the safety of an experienced Tandem Instructor in a harness built especially for two.

After watching a short video, you will be trained for about 20-30 minutes by your Tandem Instructor to make your first skydive. You and your Tandem Instructor will exit the plane at 13,500 feet and will have around 60 seconds of freefall before opening your parachute. After the enjoyment of seeing the world from a different view in freefall, you will experience a serene canopy flight of about 7 minutes where your Tandem Master will guide the parachute for a soft, easy landing. And just imagine getting this all captured on video to show your family and friends.

NOTE: You must be at least 18 years of age to skydive. There is a $30.00 airlift charge for tandem passengers over 230 lbs and $50.00 airlift charge for tandem passengers over 250 lbs. Passengers over 240 lbs will be evaluated by an instructor on a case by case basis. Any tandem passenger over the age of 65 will need a doctor's written medical clearance.

You've made a tandem and loved it, now what? Why not become a licensed skydiver?

AFF

Good level

The complete program is a series of 25 jumps or levels, which needs to be made at least once every 30 days to avoid additional ground school and jumps/cost. Each level consists of different learning objectives that you must complete in order to advance to the next level. Repeated levels are necessary if all goals are not obtained. Today's lightweight, reliable, and comfortable sport parachutes make soft, stand-up landings possible even for beginning skydivers. The parachutes used at Skydive Houston are ram-air canopies and are rectangular in shape. The jump staff at Skydive Houston is fully trained and licensed by United States Parachute Association (USPA).

AFF Level 1 courses are held at 7:30 a.m CST on Saturdays; please make your reservations now. This will consist of approximately 6-8 hours of ground school, with aircraft procedures, freefall maneuvers, the opening sequence of a parachute, emergency situations, landing techniques, and practical exercises in body positions for exits and freefall. After you have completed your ground school and passed the exam, you will exit the airplane at 13,500 feet, with 2 Jumpmasters holding on to you and then guiding you to a safe landing by radio contact.

Static Line

The Static Line program consists of 4-6 hours of ground school and 1 Jumpmaster. Classes are held every Saturday; please make your reservations now! A Jumpmaster will hook a static line to the plane and as you exit, the static line will deploy your parachute. This is very similar to what you will see with military style parachuting.

Static Line

NOTE: You must be at least 18 years of age to participate in the Static Line program. Any Static Line students over the age of 65 will need a doctor's written medical clearance.
